WHITE BUFFALO CALF

Since the official closure of the old Qu’Appelle Indian Residential School, the Star Blanket First Nation has brainstormed as to how they can assist not only their First Nation but their neighbors and surrounding communities in a positive way. They recognized the fact that they were centrally located and they wished to help offset some of the unfunded programming costs that they deliver to their band members and knew that other communities/charities had the same issues. As a result they decided on Bingo and ever since then, have had a number of Bingos to assist not only themselves but their surrounding communities as well.

They started out as an ad hoc committee but then formed the Star Blanket First Nation Bingo Committee and soon realized that they needed some staff to assist in regards to the organizing of all these events. As they were working towards streamlining their operations, they also decided that they would apply for a Charitable Gaming License and start taking advantage of the 25% Provincial Grant. They reasoned that as they had their own reporting processes it made sense to license and use IGR’s forms while receiving the benefits of the grant. This venture continues to be successful.
